The Urban Jungle

It was dark. Dark like the Amazon perhaps or even darker if there is any place as such. Streaks of light tried to find its way illuminating the particles in the air it touched as it fell on the ground. The lights, however, were colored and were flashing in a random way creating intriguing patterns all over the place. It was not serene as I would imagine a rain forest to be and nor was it quiet. Actually, it was the opposite. A constant beat was thumping as if it was trying to mock the heart. And then there were the creatures all around waving there body in a disarrayed tandem, oblivious to the surrounding. Some were moving as if they were trying to follow the sound while others were trying to fight the waves. As eery it may sound, there was still something in the whole ambiance that was able to intermittently increase the adrenaline levels of almost all the entities around synchronously. It was almost as if the the characters had assembled together to perform a ritual. Every one around had a character and a role to play and so did I. That's when I said to myself - "Welcome to the night life of human society - An Urban Jungle it is"

Its been a long day and all I wanted was a happy buzz. As I stood there thinking of ways to entertain myself, I came up with the idea of observing everyone around me, which, to my surprise, was fun. The characters around me were diverse and may be that's what a social experience is all about. There was the gang of apprehensive single women who were flocking among themselves while looking all around and perhaps waiting for the chivalrous guy to come to their rescue. On the other hand, there was the guys gang who were roaming around trying to spot a desolate prey and asking every gal left alone for a split second, for a dance. Then, there were others who were no longer playing the hunting game because perhaps they had found what they were looking for, at least for the time being. There were a few oddballs as well where the ratio of opposite sexes was slanting towards one side resulting in an awkward, unbalanced fun quotient in the group. There were a few loners as well like the guy who had some unique moves to demonstrate, which although looked like an acute case of epilepsy, was successful in garnering the attention of the paparazzi present in the house. There were also a few who were oblivious to the whole event and looked unmoved as they went about doing their jobs of cleaning the mess created all around. Above all, there was the source of the sound waves, the creator of the beats, the one who was pumping the elixir of life in this jungle. As I looked around, I observed - chivalry, rejection, acceptance, passion, hope, loneliness, delusion, comradeship,  and sheer animal instincts - the urban jungle it was.
